![]() One has to, however, cut the Anime staff on DBZ some slack as the DBZ universe is about as empty and boring of a place as it gets. We can use both Dragonball Z and One Piece fillers as a good example for this, the former having a shipful of orphans who totally wanna seriously take out Frieza guys. Such as The Junior Ghostbusters flinging vegetables at ghosts from a slingshot in The Real Ghostbusters, an obnoxious turtle fanboy-cosplayer in the original TMNT series called Zach or in the case of Mummies Alive, a child protagonist who will actually be able to do shit "one day", but who has to be a helpless and useless burden on everyone, having to rely on others to be able to do jack shit. ![]() I sometimes find that these kinds of characters are written just as comparable "kid avatars" forcfully showed into western cartoons in the 80s, who were never allowed to actually be able to do anything. Oftentimes said panels would include massive closeups of people's eyes or mouths so Kubo wouldn't have to draw anything.Īs to Fillers, I particularily despise ones which prominently feature useless filler kid characters that have no business being there. What does everyone else have to say on this subject? What are some of the best and worst filler episodes and/or arcs in anime, in your mind?īleach had an absolutely abyssmal pacing where Kubo would have maybe 3 panels per page, usually consisting of people standing around looking at each other while delivering an absolutely pitiful amount of dialogue. ![]() I honestly cannot understand how the Bleach anime series was canceled, and Naruto was not, when Bleach never had any filler nearly as bad as what Naruto had (although Bleach did have some fairly awful filler, itself, but nothing as terrible as what Naruto had). When the anime finally did return to the manga storyline, there was much rejoicing, and the joy was almost palpable. To this day, I still do not understand why the animation studio felt that it was necessary to have such an ungodly long filler arc, as viewers were constantly suffering in agony, wondering when the anime would return to the manga storyline. Those episodes have often been called “Filler Hell,” and they very much deserve that title. For those users here who were sufficiently fortunate to not watch that filler arc, that arc lasted for 85 episodes that is not an exaggeration I am being completely serious when I say that Naruto had a filler arc that lasted for eighty-five episodes. However, I do not believe that any filler arc could ever be called the “best,” since I feel that filler is best when it is in minuscule amounts.Īs for the worst filler episode or arc ever, I feel that that honor (or, perhaps, I should say “dishonor”) should be awarded to the filler arc(s) in the Naruto anime series, between Sasuke leaving Konoha and the time-skip. I dislike nearly all filler, but I must admit that the filler episode in Dragon Ball, in which Goku and Piccolo attempted to learn to drive cars, was highly entertaining and did not detract from the overall quality of the series (unlike, for example, the Garlic jr. Obviously, anime series that began as anime and were not adapted from manga series do not qualify for this thread, but there are more than a sufficient number of anime series that were adapted from manga series to make this thread interesting. Therefore, this thread is to discuss the best and worst filler episodes in anime series that have been adapted from manga series. Sometimes filler may be individual scenes in an episode, usually it may comprise an entire episode, and, on some rare and unfortunate occasions, there may be an entire filler arc, to the displeasure of viewers everywhere. The very idea of filler usually makes most anime fans shudder with dread, as the quality of such material is usually far below the quality of the canonical manga, but some filler is fairly decent in quality. Filler is material in an animated adaption of a manga series that did not exist in the original manga, which is usually created to prevent the anime from approaching too close to the manga.
